U.S. Navy

"Semper Fortis" -

The United States Navy traces its origins back to the Continental Navy, which was established during the American Revolutionary War. Established on October 13, 1775, the Continental Navy was initially tasked with intercepting shipments of military supplies and disrupting British operations on the high seas. Despite limited resources, the Continental Navy was able to capture several British vessels, including the HMS Eagle.

Following the Revolutionary War, the Continental Navy was dissolved and the United States Navy was created in 1794. The Navy was tasked with protecting American merchant ships from pirates and foreign warships. During the War of 1812, the Navy played a major role in defending the United States against the British Navy. In the decades following the War of 1812, the U.S. Navy underwent a period of rapid expansion and modernization. During the American Civil War, the Navy was tasked with enforcing the Union blockade of Confederate ports and preventing Confederate warships from leaving port. The Navy also played a major role in the Spanish-American War, helping to secure the victory for the United States. In the 20th century, the Navy played a major role in both World Wars.

During World War I, the Navy was tasked with protecting Allied shipping from German U-boats. During World War II, the Navy conducted operations in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters, playing a major role in the Allied victory. In the post-war years, the Navy has played a major role in enforcing the United Nations peacekeeping operations. The Navy has also played a major role in responding to natural disasters and providing humanitarian aid. Today, the U.S. Navy is the world’s largest and most powerful navy, with over 300 ships and submarines in active service.
