The story of USS Darter (SS-227) is written in silence. A Gato-class submarine deployed to the Pacific, she was lost with her crew during World War II. Grounded on Bombay Shoal October 24, 1944 during the Battle of Leyte Gulf after helping sink the heavy cruiser Atago. Crew rescued by USS Dace.
