The 92nd Bombardment Group was the oldest heavy bomb group in the 8th Air Force. Activated in March 1942, the group flew B-17 Flying Fortresses from England across some of the most heavily defended airspace in Europe for nearly three years. They completed 308 combat missions, lost 154 aircraft, and saw more than 800 of their men killed in action. Known as "Fame's Favored Few," the 92nd hit targets from Schweinfurt to Normandy, tested the only escort gunship variant of the B-17 ever used in combat, and led the 8th Air Force on its final mission of the war.
This collection honors their service.
