Colonel William O. Darby trained the first American Ranger battalions in Scotland, modeled on British Commandos. Darby's Rangers led the assault at Arzew in North Africa, fought through Sicily and Italy, and were nearly destroyed at the Battle of Cisterna near Anzio - where the 1st and 3rd Ranger Battalions were ambushed and only 6 of 767 Rangers escaped. Darby was killed by artillery on April 30, 1945, two days before the German surrender in Italy. He was 34 years old. Read more

On D-Day, 225 Rangers of the 2nd Ranger Battalion scaled the 100-foot cliffs at Pointe du Hoc under direct fire to destroy German guns that could devastate both Omaha and Utah beaches. They climbed with rope ladders, grappling hooks, and sheer will while the Germans fired down on them and cut their ropes. They took the position. The guns had been moved, but the Rangers found and destroyed them inland. After two days of fighting, only 90 Rangers could still fight. It remains the most iconic Ranger action in history. Merrill's Marauders - the 5307th Composite Unit (Provisional) - marched over 1,000 miles through the Burmese jungle, fought five major engagements and thirty-two skirmishes against the Japanese, and seized the Myitkyina airfield in one of the most grueling campaigns of the war. Disease, malnutrition, and exhaustion destroyed the unit as thoroughly as combat. The Marauders are the lineage unit of the 75th Ranger Regiment - their heritage is carried by every Ranger who wears the Scroll today. Read more

The 75th Ranger Regiment is the Army's premiere direct-action raid force - a regiment-sized special operations unit that can deploy anywhere in the world on 18 hours' notice. Three Ranger battalions, a Special Troops Battalion, and a Military Intelligence Battalion. The Regiment operates under JSOC, conducting the high-value target raids and large-scale special operations that smaller units can't execute alone. In Iraq and Afghanistan, the Regiment conducted nightly raids that decimated terrorist leadership networks. The 75th is the most deployed unit in the Army since 9/11. Read more

Based at Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, 1/75 maintains a Ranger Ready Force on constant standby for worldwide deployment. Every Ranger in the battalion has passed RASP and wears the Scroll. 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment - carrying the Pointe du Hoc lineage. Based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, 2/75 seized the Haditha Dam in Iraq in 2003 before Saddam's forces could destroy it and flood the Euphrates valley - one of the most important early operations of OIF. The battalion has conducted thousands of direct-action raids across Iraq and Afghanistan. Read more

3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment - the battalion that jumped onto Rio Hato airfield in Panama and fought the Battle of Mogadishu in 1993. Black Hawk Down was a 3/75 story - Rangers pinned down in the streets of Mogadishu for 18 hours, fighting their way to and from the crash sites. Based at Fort Moore, Georgia alongside Regimental Headquarters, 3/75 is the most rapidly deployable Ranger battalion. Read more

レンジャースクールを修了すると「タブ」を獲得する。RASPを修了すると「スクロール」を獲得する。この2つは同じものではない。レンジャー評価選抜プログラム（RASP）は、第75レンジャー連隊で勤務する兵士を選抜するための8週間のコースである。RASPでは、身体的持久力、精神的強靭さ、小部隊でのスキル、そして連隊のペースで活動できるかを決定する目に見えない資質が試される。レンジャー連隊に所属していなくてもレンジャータブを着用することはできる。しかし、RASPに合格しなければスクロールを着用することはできない。タブは訓練を受けたことを意味し、スクロールは所属していることを意味する。 Read more

全てのレンジャーはレンジャー信条を暗記している。R-A-N-G-E-Rの頭文字から始まる6つのスタンザからなるものだ。「レンジャーとして志願したことを認識し、自ら選んだ職務の危険を十分に承知した上で…」信条は、その同胞団を特徴づける誓約で締めくくられる。「私は倒れた戦友を敵の手に渡すことは決してない。」モガディシュでは、レンジャーは墜落した乗組員にたどり着くため18時間戦い続けた。なぜなら、信条は願望ではなく、誓いだからだ。 Read more
