Chennault's Flying Tigers. Established by special order of President Roosevelt on March 10, 1943, the 14th Air Force inherited the legacy of the American Volunteer Group — the original Flying Tigers. Operating from bases deep inside China, every bullet and gallon of fuel flown over the Himalayas on the Hump, the 14th achieved a 7.7:1 kill ratio against the Japanese — the best of any air force in any theater.

The only B-24 heavy bomb group based in China. Every bomb, bullet, and gallon of fuel had to be flown over the Himalayas on the Hump. Despite chronic supply shortages, the 308th struck Japanese shipping, ports, and installations across China, Indochina, and Formosa.
