第20航空軍は、当時最も破壊的な兵器であるB-29スーパーフォートレスを運用していました。インドとマリアナ諸島の基地から、これらの搭乗員は航空史上最長の戦闘任務を遂行し、30,000フィート上空から日本帝国に炎の雨を降らせました。第20航空軍による焼夷弾攻撃は日本の67都市を破壊し、第509混成群は広島と長崎に原子爆弾を投下して戦争を終結させました。
