最も多く建造されたアメリカの巡洋艦級のネームシップ。52隻の建造が認可され、29隻が完成。6インチ砲12門、優れた対空兵装を持ち、太平洋を横断する高速空母機動部隊を護衛するために設計された。

太平洋艦隊。1943年から44年にかけてソロモン諸島周辺で夜間水上戦闘を複数回実施。中部太平洋での進攻作戦において空母群を護衛。

13個のバトルスターを獲得。第二次世界大戦において最も記録の残る巡洋艦の1隻である。一等水兵ジェームス・フェイは艦上で日記をつけており、それが画期的な回顧録『太平洋戦争日記』となった。太平洋艦隊の巡洋艦での生活がどのようなものであったかを知りたければ、これを読むといい。

1945年3月19日、日本の航空機による攻撃で沈没の危機に瀕していた空母フランクリン（USS Franklin, CV-13）に横付けした。危険にさらされながらも、フランクリンから832人の生存者を救出した。太平洋戦争史上、最も劇的な救助活動の一つである。

レイテ沖海戦で炎上する空母プリンストン（CVL-23）の横に並んだ。プリンストンの魚雷貯蔵庫が爆発し、バーミングハムの甲板上に吹き荒れ、乗組員229名が一瞬にして命を落とした。彼女は甲板に死体を乗せたまま戦い続けた。

マリアナ諸島からレイテ湾、沖縄戦役までの太平洋艦隊護衛任務。中部太平洋での作戦期間中、堅実で信頼できる働きぶりであった。

1942年サボ島で失われたCA-44ヴィンセンヌにちなんで命名。終戦までの数年間太平洋で活躍。日本への進撃中にその名を際立たせた。

1944年就役。太平洋艦隊の高速空母任務部隊に随伴し、日本本土への最終進攻作戦に従事。

1959年にミサイル巡洋艦CLG-7に改装。1970年代半ばまで就役。砲とミサイルの時代をつないだ5隻のクリーブランド級艦艇の1隻。

1959年、ミサイル巡洋艦CLG-8に改装。冷戦下の太平洋艦隊に配属。クリーブランド級の船体を改装し、ミサイル時代までその艦齢を延ばした。

1943年以降、太平洋艦隊に所属。マリアナ・フィリピンを含む中部太平洋戦役に参加。第38任務部隊の対空警戒任務に従事。

1942年、ジャワ海で沈没したCA-30ヒューストンにちなんで名付けられました。テキサス州ヒューストンの住民は、この船への敬意を表して資金援助を行いました。この船は、その名前と責務を背負い、太平洋を横断しました。

Converted to guided missile cruiser CLG-4 and served as fleet flagship. Now a museum ship at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park, Buffalo, NY . the only surviving Cleveland-class cruiser.

Converted to guided missile cruiser CLG-3. Cold War Atlantic and Mediterranean operations. One of the first conversions in the Navy's program to modernize WWII cruiser hulls.

Commissioned 1944. Pacific Fleet through the end of WWII. Participated in nuclear tests evaluation before decommissioning.
